Cutting Carrots
Have you ever noticed that when you try to cut up carrots for soup or stew, or just a veggie platter, than there is always an occasional carrot or 2 that goes flying across the kitchen counter, and usually ends up on the floor? Carrots are slippery little buggers, and cutting them with a knife can be an art of sorts. If you want to secure your carrots and keep them from becoming airborne, just put a paper towel on your cutting board, and cut the carrots on top of the paper towel. Amazingly enough the carrots seem to lose their desire to fly across your kitchen. They remain right on the paper towel where you placed them. It also makes it easy to just lift the towel and use it to dump the carrots into your pot of stew! Its a handy little tip if you don't like serving carrots "a la cat hair" in your favorite dish. |
